Chris Hemsworth, who played Captain Kirk’s father in the latest (and absolutely awesome) Star Trek film, has been confirmed to be playing Thor in the upcoming comic book movie of the same name. The film will be directed by Kenneth Branagh and should release in 2011.

Hemsworth is also known from Home and Away, the Australian soap, in which he played Kim Hyde, the principal’s son. He’s also stepping into the shoes of Patrick Swayze in the remake of the war film Red Dawn and competed in Australia’s Dancing With the Stars. One of those is more impressive than the other, it’s up to you to chose which.
