Chris Brown faces felony charge after alleged assault

Chris Brown

The Associated Press reports that at the time R&B singer Chris Brown, 19, was scheduled to sing at yesterday’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, he was instead questioned by the police for allegedly assaulting a woman.

Brown reportedly turned himself in and was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats, according to the news agency. He was released on $50,000 bail.

Police say Brown and his companion “became involved in an argument. After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker.”

Some media reports claim that it was in fact Brown’s R&B girlfriend Rihanna who was involved in the dispute. One source has told E! News that Rihanna had bruises on her face, but Rihanna’s publicist says that the singer “is well”.

Both Rihanna and Brown cancelled their scheduled appearances at the Grammy Awards.

Brown was nominated for two Grammys this year, including in the best male R&B vocal performance category for his song “Take You Down.” Rihanna was also nominated for Grammy Awards this year.
