Following the deadly shooting that took place early Sunday morning at a gay nightclub that is located in Orlando Florida which claimed at a minimum of fifty lives. Many celebrities such as Queen Latifah, Lady Gaga, Julianne Moore as well as Ellen Page have expressed their condolences for each of the victims while at the same time pushing for political and social changes within a series of post that were on social media.
President Obama has also addresses the nation from the White House during Sunday Afternoon, stating that this act was an “act of terror as well as an act of hate.” He also added that “This is an especially heartbreaking day for many of our friends who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.” This attack came amid a number of gay pride celebrations that are set to take place around the country this weekend.
Sunday’s Tony Awards ceremony that is scheduled to take place at 8:00pm ET on CBS, has also been dedicated to the many victims of this massacre, which now stands to be the worst mass shooting in our US history. In addition to those victims who were killed by this unconceivable act, 53 more people were injured when this alleged shooter, who is a 29 year old male named Omar Mateen who lived in Ft. Pierce, Florida, entered into the gay nightclub Pulse around 2 o’clock in the morning eastern standard time and opened fired on the unsuspecting crowd using an assault rifle as well as a handgun just moments after he allegedly called 911 and pledged his allegiance to ISIS.
Lady GaGA stated: “I pray for all of the victims’ families during this shooting epidemic. That their pain be met with compassion as well as support from the world.”
Queen Latifah stated: “You do not have to Kill somebody to Be Somebody! That just makes you a no “Body”! I pray for all the people who feel that Alone!”
