Daryl Hannah sails for the Southern Ocean to stop Japanese whalers

Daryl Hannah

Hollywood star Daryl Hannah has joined anti-whaling activists in Brisbane and tomorrow she will be sailing for the Southern Ocean as part of a campaign to stop Japanese whalers from slaughtering the amazing animals, Yahoo! News reports.

Hannah will be part of the militant Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s annual campaign to find and obstruct the whaling ships – a quite dangerous undertaking considering the rumor that a Japanese gunboat is being sent to protect the whalers.

“It is surprising and shocking to me that governments are not doing this work - that it is up to individuals and non-government organizations to uphold international law and protect endangered species,” Hannah is quoted as saying by the AAP news agency.

Good Luck, Daryl!

Obama is Good for Business?

Wow check it out. Obama has kept one of his campaign promises already, by proving to be good for American business..  or at least.. a good  celebrity spokesman for … a cookie factory??

Well almost..

A cookie endorsed by US President-elect Barack Obama has seen an increase in sales since the politician/movie star/president elect and his  family revealed their love of the chocolate chunk cookies sold at Baby Boomers Cafe in Des Moines, Iowa..

Two months ago, the store was selling 400 of the cookies in a good week, but more than one thousand a week are being snapped up, according to cafe co-owner Rodney Maxfield, who, knowing a good thing when he sees it, has according to the supply and demand, jacked up the price of the sweet treat, raising it  about fifty percent,  so that you can afford a few less.. Capitalism works…:)

He added that orders  have come in from as far away as Mexico.

Ben Affleck visits refugee camps in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Hollywood star Ben Affleck is visiting refugee camps in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where approximately 250,000 people have been displaced due to fighting in the region, Yahoo! News reports.

The actor has visited the country four times since 2007. He even made a documentary about its problems for the news show “Nightline” in May.

“I’m not an expert in international affairs or diplomacy, but it doesn’t take that to see the tremendous suffering here,” Affleck tells The Associated Press. “It’s not something that we as human beings can, in good conscience, ignore… My hope in being here is primarily to bring attention to the fact that there’s a real lack of (aid agencies) here, a real lack of money going to these folks.”
