Celebrity Scientologists

The world’s religions have always had some kind of figurehead. In modern times that person isn’t always clergy but rather the lay people who have found themselves attracted to a Path. Celebrities do not seem immune to the religion bug, and many of them are drawn to Scientology. Why is that?

Well in part because Scientology courts celebrities. Hey – nothing wrong with that. It’s a great endorsement and very clever PR. And at least Scientology isn’t shy about admitting they seek out celebrities. They’ve even had a plan in place for accomplishing that goal since 1955! Specifically, they want celebrities who are at their prime of life and career. To this ends, they have specially created Celebrity Centers (one in Los Angeles of course) hoping that its presence will increase the numbers of rich and famous among their flock. We have to admire this. Long before the media had tabloids, Scientology saw a rare opportunity to cash in on fame by using the famous to distribute information about their beliefs and support their causes. It’s brilliant.

On the other hand, we cannot say for sure how great the involvement turns out for celebrities. Oh, sure Scientology stays afloat and prospers thanks to those huge incomes, but many celebrities also seem to fade on the radar once they get too deeply involved. Let’s take a peek.

Hollywood is considered the hub of the “beautiful people” with good reason. When you look at most of these actors and actresses, you cannot help but wonder how anyone living such posh lifestyles could stay fit and trim.
