New York’s Broadway theaters dimmed their lights last night in a minute-long tribute to Tony-winning actress Natasha Richardson, who died in a freak skiing accident Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.
Richardson’s husband actor Liam Neeson, her mother (famous stage actress Vanessa Redgrave), as well as actors Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker were among those who had gathered for the tribute.
The Telegraph.co.uk reports that Richardson and Neeson actually met on Broadway in 1992, when they appeared on stage together.
According to TMZ.com, Richardson (who appeared in about 25 films, but was best known for her stage work) fell while taking a private lesson on a beginners trail at a ski resort in Quebec, Canada, Monday. After the fall she was reportedly both conscious and smiling, but about one hour later she started to complain of a headache and was taken to the hospital. She died two days later.
The New York medical examiner has reportedly said that the cause of Natasha Richardson’s death was an epidural hematoma caused by a blunt impact, according to Reuters.
