Bookies Slash Odds On Arrival Of Royal Baby

kate-middletonBookmakers have today slashed the odds on the date of when they expect the new Royal Baby to arrive, after The Duchess of Cambridge let slip yesterday that her first child is due in mid-July.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are in Scotland for a two day trip and were in Glasgow yesterday when Kate was asked by a member of the crowd when her baby was due. She replied, “It’s around mid-July, but apparently babies have their own agenda!”

Babies most certainly do have their own agenda, but on the back of that tongue in cheek comment yesterday Irish Bookmakers Paddy Power have come up with a series of odds on when the baby is to be born. The 7th July or before is favourite at just 11/10, with 15/8 available for the baby to be born between the 8th and 14th of July.

Do they know something? It is not often that the bookies get it wrong is it? At the beginning of the year both of the above dates were available at far bigger odds of 3/1 and 5/2 respectively. Also speculation continues to surround the name of the new baby with Elizabeth and George still the two leading candidates. A member of the large Scottish crowd asked Kate about the baby’s name and she replied, “We have a short list for both, but it’s very difficult. My friends keep texting me names.”

Kate Middleton is reported to be around six months pregnant, so three months from now would be the 5th July, which is when the bookies expect the baby to be born. When do you think the next Royal Baby will arrive and what do you think he or she will be called?
