Bette Midler, performing at Ceasars Palace in Vegas last night announced that she would have showgirls at the exits. Anyone how offered a donation that would be collected by her girls would have that donation matched dollar for dollar by Ms Midler personally. The donations will be sent to Haiti to help defray the incredible suffering that is currently taking place there.
Ms Midler is not the first of the celebrities to make such a remarkable gesture, but her’s with the personal collection, was simply impressive to those of us in the audience. Midler is known for her charitable work, having founded the New York Restoration Project in 1995 . The New York Restoration Project is a non-profit organization whose goal is revitalizing neglected neighborhood parks in New York City. The parks in economically disadvantages areas include these: Highbridge Park, Fort Washington Park, and Fort Tryon Park in upper Manhattan and Roberto Clemente State Park and Bridge Park in the Bronx.
