Maria Shriver has officially filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger after 25 years of marriage. It’s been nearly two months since the news that Schwarzenegger fathered a child to their former housekeeper became public. Shriver’s lawyer, Laura Wasser filed documents citing “irreconcilable differences” in Los Angeles Superior Court. They have four children together, ages 13 to 21.
Reportedly Shriver and Schwarzenegger are on speaking terms with each other. Shriver is seeking joint custody of the couple’s two teen sons, Christopher, 13, and Patrick, 17. It’s also been reported that there was no prenuptial agreement; if that’s the case then according to Californian law both their assets will be split down the middle. Their combined worth is estimated to be around $300 million.
Schwarzenegger’s son by Mildred Patricia Beana is 14 years old and was raised under the assumption that Beana’s then-husband was his father. Beana worked for Shriver and Schwarzenegger in their Brentwood home for more than 20 years.
