It has been revealed why Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver announced last week that they are separating after 25 years of marriage. Schwarzenegger released a statement admitting to being the father of his mistress’ child, but he only did this after the story broke in yesterday’s Los Angeles Times.
‘I told my wife about this event which occurred over a decade ago,’ Arnie, 63, explained.
‘There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused.’ He continued with ‘I have apologised to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.’
According to reports Schwarzenegger admitted the affair to Shriver soon after he finished his term as Governor and since then they have been living separate lives. Schwarzenegger also said in a statement;
“I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family,” he said. “There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused to Maria, my children and my family.”
“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”
Shriver also wasted no time in issuing a short statement;
“This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal.”
There have been reports and accusations in regards to Schwarzenegger’s conduct towards women for many years, so this latest news is sure to raise a lot of eyebrows but it won’t come as much of a shock.
