Ariana Grande is Billboard’s Woman of the Year

Famous pop singer, Ariana Grande, was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year 2018 on Tuesday and she will receive the award at Billboard’s thirteenth annual Women in Music event that will take place on 13 December in New York City.

Music Industry is Honoring Grande

The 25-year-old singer is chosen for this prestigious award because of her numerous qualities and Billboard’s vice president of content Ross Scarano explained Grande “consistently stands up for herself and her decisions in a world that often isn’t hospitable to that sort of strength in young women.”

“Ariana Grande is a star on her own terms, never bending to any particular musical trend or path in the industry,” Scarano added. ”She’s got guts, she’s making some of the best music of her career, and she’s absolutely deserving of Woman of the Year.”

In the past twelve months, Ariana has coped some incredible successes. Her album Sweetener topped the Billboard’s Top 200. Ariana also scored the largest streaming week ever for a pop album by a female artist upon its release. The talented singer, songwriter, actress and activist has had three No1 Top 40 hits including “No Tears Left to Cry”, “Breathin” and “God is a Woman”.

Marching to Glory

Ariana participated in the March for Our Lives in support of smarter gun control laws and she constantly works on advocating mental health awareness, gender equality, LGBTQ rights and Black Lives Matter.

She also helped in the organizing the One Love Manchester concert which raised more than $23 million for the victims of the Manchester bombing that happened outside her concert last year.

The Women in Music event and the red-carpet pre-show is taking place on 6 December in New York and will be broadcast live via Twitter. The sponsors include American Airlines, Honda Stage and Nielsen Music.

In the past years, recipients of this amazing award include Madonna, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift.

This amazing success comes just after Ariana released a brand new single “Thank U, Next”. The song is the first pop single to reach No.1 on Apple Music Top 100 Global Charts and The Top 100 U.S. Chart. The song had 9 million streams in the first 24 hours and also set the Spotify record for the biggest day for a female artist with 8.19 million streams.

Despite the pop star, taking a swipe at SNL comedian Pete Davidson just days earlier, the message of the “Thank U, Next” song is that she’s thankful for all her exes as they’ve all taught her something, love, patience or pain and that now she is enjoying being single.

The song references Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Pete and Mac Miller.
