Walter Cronkite, the voice that gave the news to millions of Americans has passed away at the age of 92. Cronkite, who personified television journalism as anchor and managing editor of the “CBS Evening News,” has died. CBS vice president Linda Mason says “Cronkite died at 7:42 p.m. Friday with his family by his side at his home in New York after a long illness. He was 92.”
Cronkite was known for his straight delivery, his lack of bias and his legendary sign-off line -“That’s the way it is” .
Reporting dispassionately during what was the most volatile times in our history, Cronkite will be remembered as the voice of reason when American sometimes lacked one. It was his voice which broke the news of the Kennedy assassination, Vietnam, Martin Luther Kings speeches, the first man on the moon and the scandal at Watergate.
