Soul-jazz singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her London home yesterday afternoon, she was only 27 years old. It was just a few weeks ago that her European tour was cancelled following a disastrous opening night performance in Belgrade.
“On arrival, officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene,” a police statement said. “Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage, it is being treated as unexplained.”
Police spokesman Superintendent Raj Kohli also made the point that it has been widely reported and speculated that her death is due to a drug overdose but as autopsy results are yet to be released it is “inappropriate to speculate on the cause of death.”
Despite her well documented struggle with drugs and alcohol Winehouse had been heralded as one of pop music’s brightest new talents.
Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain are all on the list of talented musicians who have infamously died at the premature age of 27.
