“Angels & Demons” crew banned from filming in churches in Rome

Tom Hanks

The film crew for the “The Da Vinci Code” prequel, “Angels & Demons”, asked for permission to film some scenes in two different churches in Rome, but was turned down by Rome’s diocese, according to News Week.

A spokesman for Rome’s diocese, Monsignor Marco Fibbi, has tried to explain the diocese’s decision by saying that the film “treats religious issues in a way that contrasts with common religious sentiment,” and that the film “does not conform to our views.”

That “The Da Vinci Code” infuriated many Catholic leaders is nothing new and Fibbi acknowledges that the controversy over Dan Brown’s books has in fact affected the decision not the let the movie’s leading man, Tom Hanks, and the film crew shoot parts of the prequel in the two churches.
