Adam Walsh Murder Declared Solved

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports today that after nearly thirty years, the murder of the son of John Walsh, noted for his Americas Most Wanted television show, has been solved.

At 2:30 p.m. today, investigators are expected to finger Ottis Toole as the perpetrator in the disappearance and murder of Adam Walsh. Ottis confessed two times to the murder and two times recanted that confession. He died in 1996 in Florida State Prison, but the police are now expected to declare him the murdered and give his family some closure.

Adam, the son of America’s Most Wanted Host and creator, disappeared from a Sears store in Hollywood, Florida in 1981. His case was profiled in the television movie Adam (1983), where Daniel J. Travanti played John Walsh and JoBeth Willams played his wife, Reve.

John Walsh turned his grief over the loss of his son into child advocacy. Viewers of the program agree that John Walsh is especially passionate about fugitives wanted for crimes against children.

America’s Most Wanted has had a vastly successful record in helping to apprehend some of the most wanted people in America. 1,049 fugitives have been apprehended through America’s Most Wanted..

We hope that this solution to the ages old crime will finally offer some closure to the Walsh family.
