Mike Myers has reportedly confirmed that he will be writing and starring in a fourth Austin Powers movie. It was reported by HitFix.com that Myers has actually signed up for the role but as yet there has not been an official statement from New Line Cinema, who distributed the last three Austin powers movies.
There is also no official word as to who will direct the fourth installment but Jay Roach directed all three of the original trilogy.
There’s quite a gap in years since the previous three movies were made; the franchise started in 1997 with “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery,” then in 1999 “The Spy Who Shagged Me” and then the third movie was released in 2002 “Goldmember”. The Austin Powers movies made $676 million worldwide in theaters and became a cult favorite on DVD.
Myers last major role has been as the voice of the title character in DreamWorks Animation’s successful Shrek franchise.
