2020 Brit Awards Report – Complete Lowdown

The 2020 Brit Awards were held on February 18th 2020 at the O2 Arena in London.

It was the 40th edition of this annual pop music awards.

Jack Whitehall hosted the event for the second year in a row.

Tragic Event before the Awards

The comedian brought a little bit of happiness to a night that was shadowed by the death of Caroline Flack, Love Island’s former host.

Whitehall honored the TV personality at the beginning of the night.

“Over the weekend, we learned the awful news that a member of the Brits family, our friend, Caroline Flack tragically passed away,” he said. “She was a kind and vibrant person with an infectious sense of fun.  She will be sorely missed. I’m sure I speak for everyone here when I say our thoughts are with her friends and family.”

In addition to the tribute at the BRIT Awards ceremony, where Flack had often appeared over the years, she was remembered by her ex Harry Styles.

The One Direction star, who is nominated and performing at the award show, was seen wearing a black ribbon on his lapel, on the red carpet. Typically a symbol of mourning, black ribbon he wore is thought to be a tribute to the late presenter he once dated.

Though Flack’s death casted a gloomy energy over the audience, the award show continued in its usual cheery tone when the awards were supposed to be announced. Let’s see which artists went home as winners.

The Winners

The award for the Best album went to Dave’s Psychodrama. The Best British female artist of the year is Mabel, Best British male artist is Stormzy, while the Best British group is Foals.

Lewis Capaldi took home two awards, one for Best new artist and Best song for his “Someone You Loved.”

Billie Eilish was a winner of the category International female, and in the International male one Tyler, The Creator won. Celeste was named a Rising star.
